Sammuel Sanes was born on January 10, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York and
was raised on St. Croix where he graduated from Central High School
in 1982. Throughout his school years, he was involved in several
organizations such as the Boys Scouts, Sea Explorers, and JROTC.
After High School he joined the U.S. Navy and after serving five
years he received an honorable Discharge. Sanes returned to St.
Croix and worked for the Naval Underwater Tracking Site located in
Frederiksted. After two years, he decided to seek further education
and received a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from
Florida Memorial University, graduating with honors while working
part-time and attending school fulltime.
Sanes
obtained employment with the State Of Florida’s Department of
Children’s and Families. During his six years working for the State
of Florida, he earned an associate’s degree from Keiser College in
Legal Studies and became a State Certified Case Manager; he also
received several commendations and Letters of Appreciation.
He
has recently completed all the academic requirements for the
completion of his Master’s degree in Educational Counseling and is
scheduled to graduate June 2009.
In
October 2000, Sanes decided to return to St. Croix and worked for a
private company called Virgin Islands Behavioral Services as an
Assistant Program Manager and most recently worked at the Department
of Labor as the Adult Coordinator. His work experience covers over
twenty years in both the private and public sector, including five
years of military experience. He is also a member of several
community-oriented organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.,
Hispanos Unidos, The Edward L. Browne Center, a non-profit
organization that promotes reading throughout the elementary level,
and the Enrique Romero Nieves American Legion. He volunteers his
time to several organizations such as the Women’s Coalition, Virgin
Islands Puerto Rican Friendship Committee and the Department of
Health Virgin Islands Prevention (VIP) State Incentive Grant (SIG)
Program.
In
addition to volunteering for different organizations, Sanes also
conducts workshops covering different adolescent topics for
organizations such as the AZ Academy, the Episcopal Church and the
SOL project.
Family is very important to Sanes; his parents are Maria E.Sanes and
the late Carmelo Sanes; is happily married to Mrs. Cinthia Sanes and
have two beautiful daughters, Layalie and Jamaris.
