Senator Norman H.
Jn. Baptiste was born February 27, 1953 to Rodney
and Marie Elvira Jn. Baptiste on the island of St.
Lucia. Norman, the third of ten children, received
his early training and education on St. Lucia. In
1972, he commenced studies at the then College of
the Virgin Islands where he graduated in 1976 with a
B.A. in Spanish/ Secondary Education.
Upon graduation,
Mr. Jn. Baptiste was employed by the St. Lucia
Ministry of Education as a secondary school teacher.
In September of 1977, Norman joined the V.I.
Department of Education where he has since been
employed (with the exception of two years spent at
John Woodson Junior High School) as a foreign
language teacher at St. Croix Central High School.
Norman has been
involved in several community organizations. He is
cofounder of the St. Lucia Action Circle of St.
Croix; a member of the West End Democratic Club;
Public Relations Officer of the Peoples Democratic
Club of St. Croix; former public relations officer
of the Central High School P.T.A.; former vice
president of the Homeowners Association of Estate
Enfield Green of St. Croix; and, a former Secretary
of the Board of Directors of the Church of God 7th
Day. Norman has been included in 1998 for "Who is
Who Among American Teachers."
Norman and his
wife, Irene, have two children; Ambakhisye and
Mandisa.
