27th Legislature of the
Virgin Islands
A People’s Majority: United in
Purpose, Commitment and Vision
A People’s Majority’s Policy Statement
for the 27th Legislature
It is indeed a blessed day in the U.S. Virgin Islands, when we can
assemble members of the Democratic Party, the Independent Citizens
Movement Party, and No Party Senators to formulate A PEOPLE’S MAJORITY.
A Majority Caucus that will work in unison to improve the quality of
life of all the people of the Virgin Islands. Despite our different
experiences and background, we have found strength in our diversity and
are prepared to establish the strong bonds that represent and exemplify
the best traditions of our unique and diverse society.
Indeed, the very composition of A PEOPLE’S MAJORITY places the needs of
the entire Territory above partisan philosophies, geography, ideology,
ethnicity, and insular origin. In the words of Martin Luther King, “We
are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single
garment of destiny, whatever affects one directly, affects all
indirectly.” We are unconditionally committed to responsive,
accountable, transparent and principled leadership. We will work
diligently towards our goals of Social Enhancement, Economic Enrichment
and Political Empowerment for the People of the Virgin Islands.
As members of A PEOPLE’S MAJORITY and as citizens seeking to promote the
just interests of the People of the Virgin Islands, we will remain
focused and determined to exhibit the fortitude necessary to propose and
pass meaningful legislation, advance prudent public policies, and
maximize fiscal support from Federal and Territorial programs that
benefit our society.
With some forty years of Legislative experience and the fresh ideas and
diligence of our Freshman members, A PEOPLE’S MAJORITY is armed and
prepared to battle those issues and problems that have plagued our
community for far too long. It is evidently clear that the elections of
November 7th has mandated a change in the manner and conduct of the
business of the people and we are prepared to improve and enhanced the
public image of our institution, while assuring that priority is given
to the economy and quality of life on the island of St. Croix.
Through our Committees on Rules and the Judiciary; Finance; Health,
Hospitals and Human Services; Education, Culture and Youth; Labor;
Housing, Sports and Veterans Affairs; Government Operations and Consumer
Protection; Public Safety, Homeland Security and Justice; Economic
Development and Agriculture; and Planning and Environmental Protection
we pledge to work tirelessly on behalf of all the People of the Virgin
Islands. We remain United in Purpose, Commitment and Vision. A people’s
