Liston A. Davis was born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands to Lionel
Davis, Sr. and Doris Samuel Davis. He attended the former Abraham
Lincoln Elementary --now the J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary and the
former Nisky Elementary --now Ulla Muller Elementary Schools. He
migrated to Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Franklin K. Lane
High School. Senator Davis is a graduate of Central University of
Wilberforce, Ohio with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and
Geography and New York’s Fordham University with a Master’s Degree
in Educational Administration and Supervision.
Senator Davis is married to Alma Hodge Davis. Their union has
produced two daughters, Dionne Davis Halbert and Aynnayka Davis.
Senator and Mrs. Davis are the proud grandparents of Haniah Davis
and Kennedy Halbert.
A public servant throughout his professional career, Senator
Davis has a distinguished career. For many years he has faithfully
and unselfishly served the people of the Virgin Islands in various
positions in government and as an educator in the Department of
Education. He began his career in education as an elementary school
teacher and rose through the ranks to the position of Commissioner,
and most recently he served as a member of the Board of Education.
He was elected to the 26th Legislature in 2004.
Throughout his career, he established a reputation as an
administrator, disciplinarian, critical thinker, visionary, decision
maker, and an honest individual who espouses fairness for all.
His skill and knowledge of his profession, coupled with his
ability to work well with others, have brought him wide recognition
in the community. He was appointed by many administrators to serve
on more than twenty boards, task forces, associations, councils, and
commissions to help develop creative and innovative solutions to
many vexing problems confronting our community. He has embraced the
philosophy of collaborative leadership, a concept of shared
responsibility and accountability in decision making, believing that
each person has the ability to contribute to the betterment of the
whole.
Senator Davis’s history of service is well documented and he
regards it an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve
the people of the Virgin Islands.
